Eli willed his sword away. It disappeared behind his back, just the way I would have done it. “You know nothing. Nothing about me is human. I won’t be a part of something that could kill any one of you.”

“How could it kill us if—?” Then I had a thought, recalling the first time I’d seen him in the cafeteria. I had no evidence but it was worth the shot. “You can astral travel, can’t you? You’ve done it before, when you first saw me in the cafeteria. You can travel in the present too. That’s why you took off.”

“I have no idea what you’re talking about. Do you even know what that is?” His jaw clenched.

I knew he was lying. “Out-of-body experience.” I followed behind him when he started walking away.

“You have no idea of the consequences when you travel. Astral travel.”

“Then let it be my consequence.”

Eli whipped around. His face was just a breath away from mine. “You have no idea what you’re talking about.”

“Then show me.”

Eli pierced his eyes into mine. His heart drummed a mile a minute. “You want to feel pain, Lucia? You want to know what happens to people when they astral travel?”

“I-I—” I didn’t know what to say. I certainly didn’t expect him to say the things he did.

Eli extended his arm to me. “Take my hand.”

“No.”

“Take my hand, Lucia.” His tone was stern.

I shook my head.

“Last warning.”

“Last warning for—ELI.” I screamed. My stomach dropped, along with my body. Eli’s arms embraced me as we plunged through multiple layers of clouds with my back facing down. Hair whipped my face and the force of gravity made me dizzy.

“You didn’t heed my warning, Lucia,” Eli grumbled.

“So you’re trying to kill me?” The normal reaction for someone in this situation would be to fight back, but my instincts told me I wasn’t in danger. “What are you doing?” The clouds got smaller as we plummeted faster by the second. I began to have second thoughts. Wanting to believe so badly I could get through to him, I’d let it possibly cost my life.

He ignored my plea. Looking squarely in my eyes as air rushed against us, he said nonchalantly, “Get ready to die.”

The Review

SO if you have been reading my reviews you will know I have been waiting for this book to be released for a while. I just want to see how it all ends.

So for me the things I am looking forward to most in this book are

1. Why can’t Dr Nagi just die? (Ah well, he is the villain isn’t he and a formidable one at that)

2. Lots more swoon moments with Altair (who is just my dream guy)

And everything else that follows you know the fall of the seligo and all that.

To be honest the author did not fail to impress me with this one. This one by far was more action packed and fast paced, I really enjoyed how it was going. I love that the spotlight just remains on Altair and Quanta and being able to see things from their own perspectives is a plus. I really enjoyed the development in Tair and Quanta’s relationship.

A fun packed read that trully does not disappoint. I look forward to a lot more from this author.

Quanta’s POV

Futures fizzed through my dreams.

Tair and me giggling and smiling. Then Tair and me running and dying. Tompkins staring blankly into space.

The Ravens and Eva and Nagi. Millions of possibilities swirled. The past tugged at me, too. Like an underwater cave of phantoms, dying to pull me in.

Darren’s chemical-green eyes bored into me while he cackled from the darkness.

I woke up panting. And on the floor.

Gulping deep breaths, I tried to concentrate on my stinging back, hoping the pain would push away the ghosts. There were a million and one terrible things in those dreams, but one image stuck out more than all the others:

A future Quanta on her knees, clapping her hands to her ears, surrounded by limp bodies. So, so many bodies.

I pulled my blanket down around me and tried to even out my breathing. If my vitals spiked too much, Tair would come running, and I’d have to explain. I didn’t want to explain, even to him.

The nightmares didn’t bother me. Darren was dead, and he could laugh all he wanted now that he wasn’t breathing.

The past was like a bonfire I’d passed through. It couldn’t hurt me anymore. But the future… It’s just a possibility.

I hugged the blanket tight. It doesn’t have to happen.

Either way, it sucked that reality was my biggest fear.

I couldn’t let myself kill that many people. I’d end it before it went that far.And wasn’t that another chipper thought?

I grabbed the closest paper and pencil from the floor and started sketching. A time ghostly forest hovered at the edge of my vision, and I focused on it, losing myself in the shapes of the trees and mountains. By the time the paper was filled, my cold sweat was gone and panic had stopped making my vision shake.

Action. I had to do something or I was going to lose it.

The Review

If you  haven’t read book 1, then please stop now as this has some spoilers.

The book pretty much picks up from where book one left off. Although they escaped all the madness in the city of Persepolae, it seems they must return to Karnopolis to find the prophet who can free the daeva’s in the coming war with the queen of Bactria.
So Darius, Myrri , Tijah and Nazafareen leave for Karnopolis to meet with an ally known as Arshad.
Meanwhile, a necromancer and former Magi Balthazar is on a mission to also find the prophet and in the process crosses paths with the former water dogs. Will they be able to rescue the prophet before it is too late?

What did I think? So I won’t lie, I have been in a reading slump and this book didn’t manage to pull me completely out of it. But I will add that this is a really brilliantly written story.
I actually like all the characters in this book, as the author manages to create an awesome depth to them all.
We get to find out more about Darius and what he has experienced in his time when he lived in Karnopolis, there isn’t much concerning Victor in this book and I am really hoping he will be in the 3rd book.
I enjoyed the way the relationship between Darius and Nazafareen developed, they are my 2 favorite characters in the book.
Balthazar is truly a worthy villain in this book, I even fear him more than the so called queen of Bactria, this is because even when he is killing off his victims he does with interest, not malice. Now if that is not crazy person behavior I don’t know what is.
I have keen to see where the author is taking Nazafareen with the new discoveries in her abilities, she is a protagonist like no other, her strength and determination is amazing. Although her impulsive decisions might cause her more harm than good.
I really enjoyed this book and can’t wait for the next book in the series.

The Review  ★★★★☆

I read book one in this series and loved it so I just had to get my hands on this book 2. If you haven’t read book 1 then please don’t read further as there will be a few spoilers from book 1. You can check out the review here.
The book picks up mostly from where book 1 left off, Moira has been rescued but the so-called blood king seems to still be alive and hiding out in the wastelands of Aria. It up to Valla, Kol’s baby sister and the rest of the morgon guard to venture out there to gather information on how to track him down before more deaths occur.
Valla is more than ready to get the mission started but when she is partnered with Conn Rowanflame she can’t help but be irritated and almost annoyed as he always seems to wind her up. But with the passing days and events that occur there is no denying the attraction between them.

What did I like? I am secretly loving this author with every book. This series has to be my guilty pleasure. I knew exactly where the story was leading but I guess the author threw in a curve ball or two which makes me so anxious to read book 3 in the series.
I really liked this book more than the first one, the banter between Conn, Valla and Bowen was awesome, it made the story soo much more fun.
I really liked Conn in this book, please tell me he is in the 3rd book? Bowen seemed a bit too restrained to me I would like to know more of his story and I believe book 3 will be about him…. I hope.
I liked Valla as one of the key characters in this book, there were moments I felt she just needed to dial back her attitude, especially towards Conn but in all, she was a really strong character. I hope she is in book 3 too. The introduction of the supporting characters just helps expand this story even further and I can’t wait to see what the author plans to do with this story in the coming books.
Overall a great entertaining read, I can’t wait for book 3 and what exactly will happen to the blood king.

I read the first book of this series earlier this year and even though a lot of it seemed vague I was spurred on to read book 2. I wanted to know where the story of Corbin and Six would lead.
Book 2 picks up from where book 1 ended. Corbin wakes up in this world where Six is no longer just a voice but a person, a real solid person she can touch and see. But Corbin does not quite trust her mind as a lot of what Six can do does not make much sense to her. School is also starting soon and Corbin tries to make it all work, having her private world with Six and also her normal everyday life with her mom, Jordan, and school. But Corbin wants more, she wants Six to be with her in her everyday world so she must help him “become”.
Everything seems to be going great and then she meets a new guy in her art Class names Rust who seems normal enough or is he?
What did I think? All I can say is what a rollercoaster. This book is seriously messing with my mind, and why does the author always end on some cliffhanger moment that makes me so unbelievably upset because I need to read the next book asap.
In this book we get to know more about Six, what he is but there are still way too many holes in the story. I felt the story moved a bit too slow but I guess it was for Corbin to get closer to Six. Half of the book to me was still a big tease because I kept wanting much more. When all the good stuff started happening it was the end again.
I would have loved more of a back story about where Six came from, they kept going on about labels and what not which was annoying.
Again I appear to have been blindsided by Rust but her what else is new.
Jordan just seemed like an unwanted extra in the background, I mean why was she so angry? I do how book 3 is around the corner as I really need to know how this all ends.

The Review ★★★★☆

I read book one last year as part of a blog tour and immediately fell in love with Sebastian. He just wants to be a normal teenager and make the girl he loves like him back but that’s not how it goes for him. At the end of book 1 we see that Sebastian decides to let Josephine leave with her family and he chooses to stay with Hugo and the Corsi clan.
Book 2 starts off where book 1 ends, it’s been a few months since Sebastian has been away from Josephine, it’s hard most days but he seems to be coping quite well. He binds up his wings and wears a big coat and a hoodie to go around Sixes, he still can’t bring himself to accept who or what he is. This is until the Corsi’s get a visit from Nicolas (Josephine’s father) to ask for Sebastian’s help. Still yearning for Josephine he accepts willingly even though Quentin and his marksmen make him feel very uneasy.
It takes time but it seems the gypsies at the circ are starting to accept Sebastian, that is until he gets a visit from some old shadowean creatures and this time it might not be so easy to walk away from them.
What did I think? First of all, let me just say that I absolutely loved every page of this book. Maybe it was because I loved Sebastian a bit too much. My heart was breaking into pieces over and over again for him. It just seemed like he couldn’t catch a break no matter what he did. It was nice to get to know more about Josephine and Francis in this book and let’s not leave out Quentin who I seriously and officially detest (I know right he just has it in for Sebastian). The book was a bit slow in some bits but I can see that the author was trying to get us to know Sebastian the guardian a bit more. Nicolas was just soo annoying, I felt like he didn’t stand his ground enough as the so-called bandoleer especially towards the end, I mean when Augustine is involved it just can’t be good right? I can visualize the apology he will be making in the near future. Josephine didn’t do much except sit and think and second guess herself, but at the end I was giving her a standing ovation for what she did ( took her long enough).
I still feel like there is so much more about the gypsy backstory that we don’t know and I hope the author addresses most of it in book 3. But overall a fantastic read, the book has left me a bit hungover and I can’t wait to read book 3.

I thought the blurb for this book was interesting so I thought why now give it a try, besides its got dragons and you all know I love dragons!

This is a bit of a fairytale-esq ( I know, I make up the strangest words) type of read. It is quite predictable but most times I don’t mind that as long as the journey from start to finish is fun and entertaining.

The world building I thought was not really great, I never quite felt like I was transported to this medieval time as the only things that hinted at it were the use of scrolls, the words that they used and the fact that dragons and magic exist.

The plot was clever, I liked that the author gave a bit of background to the reason Addie was so enraptured by Zayne.

It took me a while to like Zayne, he just didn’t seem genuine enough to me but after a while I actually really liked him. For once the main female character was bearable. I liked Addie a lot, she showed her strength and independence, and in my opinion handled the situation she was in quite well, if it was me I would have been cursing people out left right and center (just glad its not me…moving on) The romance was ok with quite a bit of steam which I think the author executed tastefully. I really felt sorry for Queen Helena who is in a marriage with so much unhappiness. I do hope if this story continues in a book 2 she will have the opportunity to find love.

I liked how the book ended, there were no loose ends although I would have liked to hear more about Zayne’s father the king as he seems to have fizzled into the background at some point. The other secondary characters in the book were great although none of them left a lasting impression only Berinon, even Rosalind was really super annoying.

If you like a fantasy with a sprinkle of fairytale dust, then by all means this is for you!
