My Blogging Journey is Changing ( Update)

Hello everyone!

So its been a crazy year and few months, and along the way I somehow decided to take a break from blogging. I made this decision because I found that I was not enjoying reading like I used to. It felt too much like a task, with deadlines and always giving the most awesome review. Its no ones fault but mine, I just needed to take a step back and re-ignite my love for it.

I started posting intermittently but I just could not get my rhythm back.  And now I think I want to start reading properly again but I think this is the end of my journey for this blog.

I want to focus more on the book community on Goodreads and Bookstagram (Instagram)

The blog will still be live and I might use it now and again but all my reviews will not be hosted on Goodreads.

If you still would like me to review your book (This is for authors) I am still happy to although the review will be primarily on Goodreads and other 3rd party sites you may want it to be posted to.

Its been a pleasure although this is not a goodbye just a slight change to my journey.

Follow me on Goodreads  , Instagram and Twitter

#BTT – Am I posting too often?

When you start blogging, there is the urge to just go crazy with all your posts

I don’t know about you all but when I started off, a blogger friend of mine said to make sure you have enough content for the first 4 or 5 posts to give yourself more time to write new posts as you go along. This will also allow you to see how your audience is reacting to your initial posts.
I did have enough for my first 10 posts, and I was tempted to post them all in one day…..

But I had to take a step back and view things from a reader’s mindset. What I mean is, you are eager to get your blog moving and also start building your audience and give them something good to read, but there is a danger of posting way too often that can also turn off your readers.

I used to put posts up every 2 days, this I felt gave my readers enough time to read my post/ review digest it and then move onto the next one. I made sure not to do more than one post a day no matter how much I wanted to because let’s be honest with ourselves, your readers probably get over 30 emails a day, chances are that they will only read one of your emails, so why not just make it count with one really good post with great content.

I know I fell off that waggon and went back to posting every other day and almost everyday of the week which I have now concluded is pointless and unachievable for me as I have so many other things to do in a day.
As a blogger, I follow lots of fellow bloggers and I will confess,I delete a ton of emails every other day.

This is because I really don’t have the time to read 5 posts daily from each blog I follow ( I follow over 40 other blogs, I’ll be stuck all day). besides I like to take time to read what other bloggers post because I know they soent time and effort to put that content together, so I want to appreciate it. The easiest way for me to do this is I look at the subject of the post and decide which one I can take my time to digest, read, enjoy and also comment. I always love commenting.

If you find your audience is unsubscribing from your emails/posts then its worth taking a step back and finding out why.  Also here are some things you might want to consider,

– Think about doing a posting schedule to better manage your posts and the timing of them as well.
– Pay attention to your blog stats to find the best time of day & day of the week to put your posts live.
– Test you post frequency by posting once every day vs posting once every 2-3 days and see if your posts perform much better.

Hope this helps and as I mentioned previously drop me a note about any other tips/ questions you might have.

#BTT: Is my blog mobile responsive?

Hi Everyone, its  been a long hard slog to get back into blogging but I am back with a blogging tip for you this week

Let me start off by saying that when I started blogging I already had a bit of knowledge about websites and emails because of my day job, but I also realised that there are a ton of people out there that when they start blogging they just know the basics of setting up a blog and not all the other bells and whistles that go with it.

Smart phones & tablets are becoming more and more popular and not just that, they have become the extension of your arm and the must have tool for your everyday life.
I don’t like how much I rely on this my smart phone but I do like having the convenience of it. Bearing this in mind, when you are starting your blog or if you have a blog already make sure it is mobile responsive.

What does that mean? This simply means, it’s easy for people on the go to access and read your blog just like they would on their desktop computer.
It might sound like something hard to do but its really easy to do this.
Wordpress is pretty cool that within the settings for your blog you can just select the option to make it happen.
This option can be found ‘Appearance’ option. Just select Mobile and the option to enable your mobile theme can be selected. There are options to also view what it will look like although these are just general views and may not represent all the devices readers are using.
Another way for you to view a mobile version of your blog:
Go to

Pop in your blog URL bippity boppity boo!
It allows you to see your blog in a huge range of devices, and the best part is, it’s FREE to use!!!

If you are happy with what you see then all systems are go.

Did this help? Please leave a comment or if you have any blogging questions I can help with.

#BTT : How Important is Social Media for Your Blog

Hey fellow bloggers! I wanted to start a new thing where I share some of my blogging tips.

I a not an expert but I do work as a digital marketeer in the real world. Do let me know if you have any blogging questions as I am also learning as I go along.

In this day and age, everyone is connecting with each other on social networks. So as a blogger I think it is pretty important for you to be clued up on the ins and outs of social media.
Some write ups I have read point out that a lot of traffic to your blog is primarily from social media. Obviously, the volume of traffic is dependent on your target audience.

Building your blog audience

I am focusing a lot on book blogs so I believe the social networks to focus on are
Facebooks, Pinterest and Instagram. Some bloggers use Twitter but, we have so much to say that 140 characters are not just going to cut it! Continue reading “#BTT : How Important is Social Media for Your Blog”

Ramblings: Top 5 Manga Series I Have to Own

If anyone had asked me a year ago or even 6 months ago if I liked manga I would have given you the “are you crazy?” look. And to be honest I kind of stumbled on it some random day and to be honest I have never looked back. I have cheated though and wanted a few that are now series but nothing truly compares to reading the actual thing. I like a lot of lovey dovey stuff so you can imagine my surprise when I found out how addictive Shounen Manga is. So here are a list of my Top 5 manga series that I am looking forward to reading this 2017.

1. Tokyo Ghoul by Sui Ishida

This one is just shamazing….. I can’t get enough of Tokyo Ghoul. I watched the anime but I find that it didn’t do the Manga enough justice. So I am going to read it all…..

What its about

Shy Ken Kaneki is thrilled to go on a date with the beautiful Rize. But it turns out that she’s only interested in his body—eating it, that is. When a morally questionable rescue transforms him into the first half-human half-Ghoul hybrid, Ken is drawn into the dark and violent world of Ghouls, which exists alongside our own.

2. Attack on Titan by Hajime Isayama

I binge watched the anime and I just have to find out how it all ends. So I’m off to read the manga. It is one super actionpacked epic series.

What its about

In this post-apocalytpic sci-fi story, humanity has been devastated by the bizarre, giant humanoids known as the Titans. Little is known about where they came from or why they are bent on consuming mankind. Seemingly unintelligent, they have roamed the world for years, killing everyone they see. For the past century, what’s left of man has hidden in a giant, three-walled city. People believe their 100-meter-high walls will protect them from the Titans, but the sudden appearance of an immense Titan is about to change everything.

 3. Ouran High School Host Club by Bisco Hatori

My list is never complete without some fun Shujo manga. I have been wanted to read this one and also I just noticed that the story line reads like something out of a K-drama. Continue reading “Ramblings: Top 5 Manga Series I Have to Own”

Ramblings: 15 things I have learned about #Bookstagram

Hey everyone, I am coming up to my 1 year anniversary from when I joined #bookstagram and I just thought it would be great to share what I have learned so far. Also if you are thinking of joining maybe some of the tips and things I have learned can help you.

1. It is a very welcoming community
Everyone there is lovely and you are bound to make a few good or even great friends that you can share your thoughts or fangirl obsession with.

2. Decide on what is important to you when you join.
What I mean by this is, are you there for the number of followers you can get or just there to make friends…

3. Find your inner theme creativity.
I struggled a lot with finding a theme and even after a year I can’t decide on what it should be. It just shows that my mind is a maze you don’t want to experience.

4. Don’t follow fellow bookstagrammers to gain a follow and then unfollow them later.
This is so uncool, you can’t imagine how annoying this thing is for me and for that reason I really stopped doing shout out for shout outs and instead I just follow accounts that I really love or even accounts that genuinely follow me. Ramblings : Happy 2017 and Reading Goals

Happy new year! I know it is already day 5 and I seem to be the last person to post anything 2017 related.
I initially wanted to do a post about my best books of 2016 but I think I missed the chance, besides I fell off the reading wagon towards the end of the year so I think we can leave it right there.

Let’s talk goals for 2017…… If you all remember, I failed my 2016 reading goal. I sort off fell into a mood and reading just wasn’t helping so I stopped and now with renewed vigor, I want to try it again.
So this year I will be re-trying my “100” books reading goal.(oh look I’m already behind schedule drat!!)

I am very ambitious this year and I hope to accomplish at least half of the targets and goals I set myself (both reading or other wise)

How many books are you reading this year?

“If you are on goodreads add me as a friend, I really want to also cheer you on as you take on your reading challenge. This year I really want to make more friends in the book world.”

Good luck!!!

Ramblings: Five Reasons to Watch Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

I don’t usually do any movie reviews and I am not your typical over the top Harry Potter fan but, I recently went to the cinema and saw Fantastic Beasts and for a movie that was birthed from nothing (ie a text book to be used by Harry Potter) I think it was totally awesome. Here are my 5 top reasons why you need to go see it.

1. You get to go back into the awesome wizarding World
If you have been missing some magic in your life, then this is just what you need, I like that you don’t need to have seen the other Harry Potter movies or read to books to get into this movie.

2. The Beasts are truly fantastic
I loved all the beasts featured in the movie. Yep some were weird looking and to be honest I have no idea how they came up with the names for them or their characters but each one was unique and fun to watch.

3. Great story with a twist at the end.
A really great story that will keep you entertained from the start to finish. The cast and the characters are fun, exciting and you will want to watch them over and over again.

4. There is magic beyond Hogwarts
This story was set in the big apple instead of the usual London from the other Harry Potter stories and for me this shows that the wizarding world is beyond Hogwarts and London. Did you know they have their own School of Wizardry in the USA?

5. Makes you feel connected to the Harry Potter world
If you have been missing a dose of Harry Potter in your life, then don’t miss out on this movie. It is sure to give you a dose of the wizarding wold that you have been missing.

My favourite character in the movie was Jacob and my favourite beast by far was Niffler. You need to watch it to understand what I mean.

Have you watch it? and what did you think about it?
