Synopsis

Seventeen-year-old Scarlett Blake is haunted by death. Her sister has made the ultimate dramatic exit: run away from school, join a surfing fraternity, drown in a tragic ‘accident’.

Following in her sister’s footsteps, Scarlett comes to an isolated English cove to uncover the truth. And, as it turns out, to fall in love with the place and its people, especially a certain blue-eyed surfer with a serious case of the heroics.

But as Scarlett’s quest for the truth unravels, so too does her grip on reality as she’s always known it. Because there’s something strange going on in this little cove. A dead magpie circles the skies. A dead deer watches from the undergrowth. Hands glow with light. Power.

What transpires is a summer of discovery: of what it means to conquer fear, to fall in love, to choose life, to choose death.

To believe the impossible.

charlotte-wilsonAbout the Author

Once upon a time a little girl told her grandmother that when she grew up she wanted to be a writer. Or a lollipop lady. Or a fairy princess. ‘Write, Charlotte,’ her grandmother advised. So that’s what she did.
Thirty-odd years later, Charlotte is a professional writer. For authors and publishers, she writes and edits books as The Book Specialist. For herself, she writes soulful, coming-of-age romance for young adults.
Charlotte grew up in the Royal County, a hop, skip and a (very long) jump from Windsor Castle, but these days she makes her home in a village of Greater Manchester with her husband and two children. When she’s not reading or writing, you’ll find her walking someplace green, baking up a storm, or embarking on a DIY project. She recently achieved a lifetime ambition of creating a library in her home to house her ever-increasing collection of books. She pretends not to notice that the shelves are rather wonky.

About the book

Camille Ellis has gone rogue agent, and there’s no turning back now. The conclave might have put the Charybdis case to bed, but Cam isn’t willing to let it lie. No badge doesn’t mean no backup these days.

As mate to an alpha warg, she has access to new and lethal resources. A whole pack full of them. And they all want justice for the sins committed against them.

But the stakes are higher than she knows, the secrets exposed darker than she feared, and the cost of winning higher than she ever imagined.

The Review

I was so excited to get an ARC for this book and even though I had agreed on what to read next, I have to bump that aside to read this book as I just needed to know what will happen to Charybdis.

The story picks up where book 2 left off. Cord has chosen to leave Bessemer’s pack and some of the defected Wargs who are loyal to him are coming along. Cam needs all the help she can get to also locate her cousin and her aunt who have mysteriously gone missing, no thanks to Charybdis. The conclave seems to be running investigations but without great results. It’s now up to Cam to call in her least favorite cousin Theo to help.
This, of course, brings up old squabbles and rivalries which in order to survive they must put aside. Charybdis is getting closer attacking the people Cam loves, which puts the pack on edge.
Cam will need to figure out what exactly Charybdis wants before more lives are lost and she must also come face to face with her past and the secrets that have been kept from her.

What did I think? I think this book was my favorite in the series. I took my time to read it slowly as I was sad that this part was going to end.
The twists in this book were mind blowing as I never really expected things to turn out how they did.
I really liked the characters in this book, Graeson was the best, his jokes and comments were so good. Kudos to the author for that.
Dell, I found very annoying sometimes but also I think I liked her openness and strength.
It was nice to see Thierry again, albeit for just a short time but I think this paves the way for the next part of the series which I can’t help but be impressed with how the author executed that.
Charybdis as a villain was really awesome, he had that creepy edge that made you watch your back all day every day. He was one of those that it pretty much stomped me about how he could be defeated.
I like that we finally got to meet Theo and in all honesty, I think I like him more. Hopefully, the next chapter of the series will allow us to get to know more about the pack members.

Truly a series worth reading…..

About the Book

Regina Capalini, abandoned by her parents at age three, and the victim of a heinous crime, has been tossed away by the only Pack she has ever known. She has one last chance to impress her new Alpha, Diego Beauchamp, or be left to fend for herself as a rogue wolf, a sentence that will surely end in death.

Fate intervenes, not once, but twice, and plunges Regina into a fast-paced race against the clock to save the life of the stranger she just met.

In the midst of this harrowing life-threatening rescue, she comes to know five unique people who, in their own quirky and troubled ways, teach this misfit and broken girl the meaning of love, trust, and loyalty, making her question everything she ever believed was true.

Together, they create an alliance, a new breed of Pack, one that changes the course of the future forever.

Happy new year! I know it is already day 5 and I seem to be the last person to post anything 2017 related.
I initially wanted to do a post about my best books of 2016 but I think I missed the chance, besides I fell off the reading wagon towards the end of the year so I think we can leave it right there.

Let’s talk goals for 2017…… If you all remember, I failed my 2016 reading goal. I sort off fell into a mood and reading just wasn’t helping so I stopped and now with renewed vigor, I want to try it again.
So this year I will be re-trying my “100” books reading goal.(oh look I’m already behind schedule drat!!)

screen-shot-2017-01-05-at-12-08-59

I am very ambitious this year and I hope to accomplish at least half of the targets and goals I set myself (both reading or other wise)

How many books are you reading this year?

“If you are on goodreads add me as a friend, I really want to also cheer you on as you take on your reading challenge. This year I really want to make more friends in the book world.”

Good luck!!!

About the Book

All this may seem like old news, but for seventeen year-old Elena Watkins the world of Paegeia is not finished revealing all its secrets. During a summer break intended for relaxation, she discovers that her harrowing adventure to retrieve the King of Lion sword wasn’t the destiny foretold by the cryptic Viden, a dragon with the ability to see a person’s true fate. The words inked onto the page of the mysterious Book of Shadows remains black and Elena must return to Dragonia Academy to discover their true meaning.

Upon her return to the magnificent castle she has to face a challenge of a different kind, keeping her boyfriend Lucian McKenzie, the Prince of Tith and love of her life, away from the dangerous new student, Paul Sutton. As a Wyvern, Paul has made it his mission to claim Elena as his rider but he is proving to be more perilous than at first glance.

Everyone knew that Wyverns were bad news, and just as evil as the darkness that lurked inside Blake Leaf, the Rubicon forced to fight against his inner nature every day. But Elena can see a small light lurking in the darkness, a destiny still unfulfilled; to prove that Wyverns can be claimed.

Will Lucian’s dark secret about Wyverns and Elena’s need to prove their true nature cause their love to be torn apart? And which of Elena’s friends will be sacrificed this time if she is wrong?

The Review

We return to the world of paegeia and the Dragonians. There is now a new king of lion weapon and they managed to stop a brutal attack from Goran. And While Elena is trying to keep a low profile she and her friends can’t seem to go unnoticed for what they did to save the academy. Book Review: Quanta Reset (The Shadow Ravens #3) by Lola Dodge

About the Book

Quanta has escaped her laboratory prison, but that’s where the good news ends.

Life at the Shadow Ravens’ compound is a disaster. She’s drowning in visions of the dark pasts and darker futures of her fellow Ravens and is plagued by her own panic-inducing memories, but Lady Eva still expects her to “train” and “participate in missions.” Plus, the food tastes like burnt plastic.

The only bright spot is her genetic pairing to the brilliant Altair Orpheus. As their relationship grows, she’s positive that chemicals aren’t the only things drawing them together—although chemistry is definitely involved.

While they test the limits of her game-changing new ability to reset time, word arrives from Eva’s agents: Doctor Nagi is still experimenting with her DNA. If he succeeds in duplicating her power…

Forget the Shadow Ravens. The whole world is toast.

The Review

First of all, I’d like to say that this series is just epic!!! If you haven’t still read it, then you are missing out.
We pick up right where book 2 left off. Tair and Quanta finally escaped the Alpha citadel and are safe at Eva’s compound from Doctor Nagi and his evil lab.
Even though Tair would like Quanta to take things easy, Lady Eva might have other plans plus Quanta is having a hard time trying to adjust with the onslaught of time ghosts. Continue reading “Book Review: Quanta Reset (The Shadow Ravens #3) by Lola Dodge”

About the Book

Eager to escape her small hometown, high school junior Nessa Kurland is focused on winning a college scholarship for cross-country running. A chance encounter with a trapped wolf while out on a run leads to powerful and frightening changes, and one day, Nessa is transformed into a full werewolf. Now Nessa must navigate the challenges of high school while coming face to face with true human darkness, as she tries to make peace with her new wild nature.

The Review

First of all I want to apologise to the author for not posting this during the blog tour. Its not my style to let down authors or publishers and I do hope that this has not created a bad impression or ruined any opportunities for the future.

I was given a sample of this book to review, and you all know how much I love wolves, so I did not hesitate to read the full book.
The book started off really strong, with getting know Nessa and her family who live in a small town which is recovering from the wake of a chemical spill. She has finally made the cross country team and is determined to make it out of her hometown no matter what it takes.
One night when on a run she comes face to face with a trapped wolf that she tries to save only to then be bitten. What follows are a series of changes that Nessa does not know how to handle or who she can trust to seek help from. Also, there is something strange going on in the town with the new company that has bought the chemical plant.

What did I think? I really wanted to love this book from start to finish, it started off great, and then the middle came and I was bored. I don’t know if it was Nessa or the other characters which didn’t seem to make much sense but I kept waiting for something awesome to happen but it never came. I think the plot was good, I kinda guessed who the bad guys were even before we got there and who the heck is the Grey wolf and how does Luc feature in all of this? (sorry I won’t give spoilers).
Cassian turned out to be a conceited jerk (why am I not surprised), and Bree is the essential best friend that everyone needs to have. Nessa’s mum seemed to be there most of the time and then she disappears half way through.
I just couldn’t connect with the characters in the book and found myself flipping through so I could just get to the end. I don’t know if I will read the next book in the series but I might be inclined to read more as I am hoping the author will do more with the characters and the story.

About the book

Meredith Molloney never thought she’d find a mate, let alone someone like Donovan Murry—one of the most powerful Alphas alive. Now that she’s no longer cursed and the evil Luciana Alvarez has been taken care of, she thinks life will finally settle down. Boy, has she never been so wrong

In the middle of the night, Donovan gets a call telling him that his pack has gone to pieces. The news that his second in command has been found brutally murdered has Donovan packing his bags for Ireland, but the last thing Meredith wants to do is leave Texas. She’s heard about how the Celtic Pack are with outsiders. And Donovan has more than a few exes in the pack that will be less than friendly.

Meredith’s never let a few angry wolves stop her, and she’s not about to start now. She’s faced down much worse the past few months. But when she gets there, she finds that it’s not just a few exes who stand in the way between her and her Full Moon Ceremony with Donovan

Meredith is thrust in to a deadly game of pack politics, one the fey have happily joined in on. When the dust settles, she knows she’ll either have everything that she wants or lose it all.

Excerpt

“My court hears things,” Cosette said. “Donovan’s pack was a mess before, and now that he’s mated, it will only get worse. Since you haven’t completed your bond to him yet…” She shook her head. “Trouble is brewing. I can’t tell you much more than that, but I wanted to at least warn you and leave you with a measure of protection.”
“Okay. So a get out jail free card is what exactly?”
“Open it.”
I took the pouch and shook its contents into my hand. It held a single gold coin. One side was smooth as silk, and the other had a ring engraved with the phases of the moon.
A Lunar court coin? “What does it do?”
“Touch the coin and say where you want to go. It’ll take you there. Kind of like Dorothy and her silver shoes.”
“Red.” Her shoes were definitely red.
“Silver in the book. Red in that movie. But however you remember it is fine.”
“I don’t think I’ll forget.”
“Good. It’s a one-use enchantment, so be sure to use it wisely.”
“I don’t know what to say.” I couldn’t thank her. That was a severe no-no with the fey. A thank you implied a debt, and the fey could claim what they were owed in a whole host of unsavory ways.
“Promise me you’ll stay safe. You had my back in the chapel and this is the only thing I can do for you before I get packed off to hide.” Cosette gripped my arm. “If the Weres gang up on you, use the coin to get away.”
That would work if things got really shady, but not under any normal circumstances. “I can’t just run away if I get challenged.”
“Why not?”
“I’d lose. I’d be a disgrace.”
“You’d be alive.”
My blood ran cold. “I’m not the highest rank in the pack, and until Donovan and I have our ceremony, I won’t be. If his pack wants me gone, they can probably make it happen. Running from a challenge would only delay that.” And it scared me how easy it might be.
“Donovan will try to protect you, but he can’t see all the threats. You have to look for the truth.”
“Either way, I’m glad to have some insurance.” I slid the coin back into the pouch and zipped it up. “This was really nice of you.”
“I hope you never need it.”
“Me, too.” I hoped she was wrong. Fighting to join a pack that didn’t want me seemed like the worst idea. But it was Donovan’s pack. If I wanted to be his mate—and I did—then I had to do what I had to do.
