The Review

A story about lost friendships, secrets, love and loads of Christmas cheer!

The books on my Christmas reading list just seem to be getting better, and this one was no different. I have never read a Sue Watson book before and this has just made me a fan of her work. This is a story about lost friendships, secrets, love and loads of Christmas cheer!
Amy has been married for over 20years and when her husband walks out on her 3 weeks before Christmas for a certain young pole dancing legal assistant, she cant help but feel betrayed and deeply hurt. But on reflection she realizes in some way that her husband did them a favour as she always knew she never really loved him. Amy longs for her friendship with an old friend who has now turned into a TV baking celebrity. And while Amy loves watching her Christmas specials she is caught off guard one of the days when she realizes that the recipe Bella is using as her own on the show belongs to Amy’s mother. And with that the gloves are off and Amy is ready to take down Bella for using something so special for her personal gain. But what Amy never counted on where the secrets, lies and the rekindling of an old friendship. Maybe a little bit of romance too and lots of Christmas spirit.
What did I like? I adored this book, it gives you a peek into the world of superstardom, with props and the fact that a lot of it is sometimes staged. So don’t be quick to believe everything you watch on TV. The book highlighted the insecurities that also came with the celebrity world and honestly I applaud Amy for stepping back from that.
I love that the Christmas spirit was around charity, as they were giving back to the shelter. It made me think about how other people are spending their own Christmas and what I can do to help.
Amy;s husband was just a jerk, I didn’t like that he was trying to knock Amy’s confidence when she was standing her ground on what she wanted. I think all women should take a leaf out of her book.
Bella was a handful, and it just shows what happens when secrets are kept and the amount of years we lose because we don’t express ourselves to our friends.
I wasn’t expecting Mike in the book but I loved him all the same….. read the book and you will understand.
