The Shades in Chaos have one goal: get to Earth Realm and wreak havoc. For a select group of people called Realmwalkers, sleep is the gateway to another realm known as Chaos.
When 17-year-old Addy is called to Chaos, she yearns to conquer her crippling fears and prove her mettle by fighting alongside her fellow Realmwalkers. While she hopes to impress their handsome leader, Sam, she’s also keenly driven by the urge to protect the ones she loves on Earth.
The Realmwalkers are baffled, however, when they encounter a powerful and seemingly invincible Shade with strange motives and a dark obsession with Addy. As they work to unravel the mystery to defeating this new threat, Addy finds herself at odds with the Walkers. Gut instinct says to put her faith in Mikhail, the black sheep of the group, but she fears losing the respect and friendship of the others.
Addy is willing to die to keep Earth safe, but the Walkers are her new family, and she’s on the verge of falling in love. With Addy coming into her own, death shouldn’t be on the horizon. But when the doors of hell are ripped open, there are no guarantees.
I got this copy off Netgalley and I must admit I had it sitting in my library of books for a longtime, so I thought it was a great time to read something different. I have always liked YA stories but this one was sincerely awesome.
The book is about Adelaide as 17year old student about to graduate high school. She lives a simple carefree life, where she does art, has a very selfish and conceited friend names Tori and has the strangest dreams when she goes to bed.
The dream is always the same, she is falling and just before she hits the ground she wakes up, but one night it’s a lot more that. Adelaide goes to sleep but wakes up in Chaos, scared and unaware of what had just happened she is saved by Mel and then the story begins from there.
The story was well thought out and the description of world of Chaos by this author was amazing. It felt like I was there also, I found with this YA novel I could immerse myself in the story and really get the feel of what was going on.
So the story follows the Realm Walkers, not so ordinary people from all walks of life that have ben summoned to Chaos to stop the sludgy bad guys or shades from unleashing destruction on the earth Realm. It seems with Adelaide’s arrival in Chaos there is a very angry greater shade that wants her gone. While it is proving harder and harder to defeat this greater shade, Adelaide may have found a way to defeat it and save everyone but will they agree with what she is suggesting. Especially as it involves one of the realm walkers that don’t know too well.
The story is very original, I loved all the kind of abilities that the realm walkers had and there were some hints of moral advice to take away from the story. I am desperately trying not to give anything away from the story.
I can’t really fault the story although there are some of the bits and pieces that seemed a bit unrealistic, but wait this is a story right so that’s not important. If you are looking for a cool YA novel then this is for you.
I loved Angels character the most, her innocence and purity and wisdom was refreshing. Really looking forward to reading book 2.
